چکیده

Introduction For most of the recent decades, the major focus of radiation oncology in the management of breast cancer has been on performing both randomized and nonrandomized trials comparing breast-conserving therapy (BCT) using surgery and radiation with the more traditional modified radical mastectomy (MRM). With data confirming equivalent survival with these 2 local-regional therapies in the management of early-stage breast cancer, attention was then refocused on identifying factors (pathologic, patient, or therapy-oriented) that predicted the success or failure of the local-regional treatment.

ACR Appropriateness Criteria® local-regional recurrence (LR) and salvage surgery: breast cancer.

Despite the success of both breast conserving surgery and mastectomy, some women will experience a local-regional recurrence (LRR) of their breast cancer. Predictors for LRR after breast-conserving therapy or mastectomy have been identified, including patient, tumor, and treatment-related factors. The role of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy as treatment has evolved over time and many patie...

High Dose Involved Field Radiation Therapy as Salvage for Loco-Regional Recurrence of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

PURPOSE To determine the effectiveness of salvage radiation therapy (RT) in patients with loco-regional recurrences (LRR) following initial complete resection of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and assess prognostic factors affecting survivals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between 1994 and 2007, 64 patients with LRR after surgery of NSCLC were treated with high dose RT alone (78.1%) or concurrent...

Risk Factors Associated with Distant Metastasis and Survival Outcomes in Breast Cancer Patients with Locoregional Recurrence

PURPOSE To decide the optimal treatment for breast cancer patients with locoregional recurrence (LRR), it is important to determine which group has the highest risk of subsequent distant metastasis (DM). We aimed to investigate the factors associated with DM in patients with LRR. METHODS We reviewed the data of 208 patients with LRR as the first event after primary surgery for breast cancer a...

Analysis of loco-regional and distant recurrences in breast cancer after conservative surgery

BACKGROUND A number of patients treated conservatively for breast cancer will develop loco-regional and distant recurrences. Our aim was to determine how their occurrence may be linked to the evolution of the disease. METHODS We analyzed 238 women treated by conservative breast surgery and breast irradiation in a single institution. We evaluated the prognostic factors associated with loco-reg...

Breast cancer subtypes and outcome after local and regional relapse.

BACKGROUND To evaluate the outcome of breast cancer patients after locoregional recurrence (LRR) according to tumor biological features evaluated at first diagnosis and at the time of recurrence. PATIENTS AND METHODS We collected information on all consecutive breast cancer patients operated at the European Institute of Oncology between 1994 and 2005. The tumor characteristics and subsequent ...
